Objective
The aim of the project is to evaluate the internal and external quality of stainless steel sheets processed on an existing pilot near net shape casting facility. Grade AISE 304 stainless steel (DIN 4301) produced at ALZ will be remelted and continuously cast into 40 mm thick slab at the Schloemann-Siemag pilot plant at Buschütten, then transported for hot rolling at Kloeckner Stahl, Bremen. The hot rolled coils will then be returned to Genk for cold processing. In a second phase, ALZ intends to contact producers able to process thinner slabs or strips to confirm the ability of such near net shape casting to yield top quality sheet products.
