Application of new subsidence prediction methods for damage minimisation of surface structures above underground workings

Objective

The essential purpose of this research project is to develop methods for the prediction of ground movements associated with coal mining excavations particularly those related to surface subsidence in urbanised areas in order to reduce the costs of both the damage and the procedures that are applicable for its control

- comprehensive classification of coal mine subsidence types according to their characteristics and environmental impacts;

- description of surface monitoring methods to control mass displacements;

- adjustment already existing methods particularly the following ones:

- the so called "void migration" technique (project 7220-AD/761);
- various methods used with success in Russia.

- correlation checking between predictions and real field values;

- definition of a criterion to select the field work to be done to minimise the expected subsidence effects.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
