Deliverables
Completion of research secondment at one of the consortium partners.
Technical skills and hands-on workshops in solving finite element modeling problems. The workshop will utilize Femlab and guide ETN fellows in using the software, modelling mechanical modes, modelling thermal transport and modelling optical modes.
Transferable skills workshop focused on two critical soft skills, indirect and direct communications.
Transferable skill workshop on presentation skills based on the popular “Art of presenting science” course developed by firm Artesc.
Technical skills workshop on theoretical quantum optomechanics
Technical skills workshop on sensing of mechanical motion.
Transferable skills workshop exploring funding opportunities and effective proposal writing
Transferable skills workshop on industry exposure at BOSCH
Technical skills workshop focused on modern solutions in refrigeration, thermometry, low noise measurements, and quantum engineering. Academic training will be complemented by visits to industrial and government laboratories (BlueFors Ltd and MIKES).
Transferable skills workshop presented by EPFL's TTO office focuses on how companies are started, managing IPR, how business plans are written, and venture capital funding.
Transferable skills workshop presented by IBM with focus on commercial exploitation of technical innovations and the treatment of intellectual property in an industrial research environment.
All beneficiaries will host ESRs under training secondments.
Transferable skills workshop exploring career prospects open to ESRs after their PhD education, in the fields of industry (start-up, SME, large companies), academia and patent law.
Research secondments are “needs” driven and to be defined by the beginning of the 3rd year at the latest, and concern a stay of 1 – 3 months at one of the partners working on a similar topic. The aim is to complement the PhD thesis with expertise from one of the ETN partners and culminating ideally in a joint publication.
