Ergonomic criteria for reducing the risk of musculo-tendon and joint damage in the upper limbs during maintenance operations in steelworks

Objective

Aims of project:

To reduce the risks of biomechanical stress during maintenance work in the steel industry and to draw up a code of good practice for training personnel in the ergonomic design of equipment and working methods.

Methods:

Description of workplaces;

report on musculo-skeletal problems found, industrial accidents resulting in biomechanical injury, musculo-skeletal complaints reported by workers;

research into and evaluation of phases in the work where there was a high risk of biomechanical damage, and research into the technical reasons for the stresses observed;

recommendations for each potentially hazardous activity.

Aims of the research:

The work of tundish liners, METACON millwrights and other millwrights on three continuous casting lines.
