Developing and assessing means of readily distributed the results of ECSC ergonomics research and the provision of supporting teaching units to facilitate their understanding and application

Objective

The project will develop the results of the previous ECSC study 7249/31/009 which considered the ergonomics requirements of a computer based prototype system of information on health and safety known as THESIS.

In particular, a section within THESIS will be developed to provide a structured access to the results of the ECSC Ergonomics Programmes and the developments in their application.

For this foregoing purpose the project will pay particular attention to the presentational formats of the system, aiming to include photo imaging of pictorial diagrammatic and graphical information as appropriate to the range of potential user-groups of the data base.

The project will further go on to pursue the conclusions of the previous ECSC study 7249/31/007 on computer based training modules with a view to developing an integrated information-training system.

Ways and Means to Achieve the Work

The project will restructure and amplify THESIS to enable it to carry detailed results from the ECSC Ergonomics Programmes. A study will also be made of the optimum presentational arrangements for the research data and how they might best be structured to facilitate searching. The study will further investigate the source and format of available data with a view to rapid expansion of the data base with minimal keyboard entry.

At this stage the facilities for entry, storage and recall of graphics and pictorial data will be investigated with a view to achieving satisfactory integration with text.

This foregoing work will be done in collaboration with the Community Ergonomics Action Bureau of Information and Coordination giving due regard to the results of ECSC study 7249/31/006 and the Bureau's current format for dissemination of hard copy.

Associated with this work will be the development of a computer based teaching module to enable further exploitation of the data base.

Consideration will also be given to providing facilities for incorporating specific information relevant to other Member States.

The work will be undertaken using the existing British Steel main frame computer network, supplemented by any necessary modem links via the public communications service.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
