Objective
The aim of the project was to provide a means of predicting workplace noise and to determine the need for noise control measures.
There is a proven risk to hearing at a number of workplaces in coal mines. Excessive noise interferes with signals and effective communication between workers and there may be a safety risk. A new directive on workplace noise introduces an obligation on the employer to inform the workforce about noise in the working environment which may exceed a recommended level of 85 dB(A) Leq.
