BactiLine at-line system for automatic monitoring of microbial bacteria in water

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - BactiLine (BactiLine at-line system for automatic monitoring of microbial bacteria in water)

Reporting period: 2017-02-01 to 2017-07-31

Mycometer A/S ambition is to become major player in the global market of smart water management market, by introducing a disruptive automated solution for monitoring microbial bacteria in water systems. SME forecasts to achieve cumulated revenues of €18M with net profits of €11M within five years after market rollout. The present feasibility study represents a key step towards the implementation of our overall innovation project, the primary goal of which is adaptation and full-scale demonstration of our automatic, early-warning at line water monitoring system. Through the large number of meetings with potential customers, the demand for an automated solution for monitoring microbial bacteria in water, as BactiLine, was clearly verified. Our analysis shows that our ambition may be fulfilled if a focused route-to market strategy is followed.
During the feasibility study we: • defined and prioritized our primary market segments – potable water and industrial market segments; • assessed IPR protection and regulatory requirements for market expansion; • confirm that the acceptance and competitiveness of the BactiLine is, first and foremost, dependent on gaining market confidence; • concluded that the overall strategic vision should be expanded to other geographical markets; • further develop and enhance the business plan based on the findings during the feasibility study; • validated or even enhanced the concept, approach and impact.

Our conclusions from the technical feasibility studies are that BactiLine have the desired benefits and the production can be upscaled to the volume needed for the targeted markets.
BactiLine is a disruptive idea to the smart water management market, where current technologies are time- and resource-demanding, require skilled technicians, and results are not representative as only a very small water sample is analysed. Mycometer has developed an automatic early-warning solution, the BactiLine at-line system, which promptly detects elevated levels of bacteria in water systems and sends out a warning to the users affected when bacteria levels are too high. The commercialization of BactiLine solution will provide the possibility of water pollution control and associated adverse health effects while also implying a strong business case for Mycometer, as detailed in the final report.
