Migration and deployment studies

The purpose of this deliverable is to provide the migration roadmap towards a future SDM-enabled 5G network infrastructure and the deployment of the innovative solutions. The migration study is based on the models adopted for complete and partial coexistence with other technologies.

Unified SDN/NFV platform for network slicing

This deliverable reports on the design, integration and validation of the blueSPACE unified SDN/NFV platform for network slicing, which will be provided for both network, cloud and virtual function resources. The study includes new technologies available, such as virtualization, cloud-infrastructure orchestration and SDN with the expectation of providing a scalable solution which optimizes/simplifies the operator operations in order to reduce costs by the in-operation optimization and verification to support the NFV server scheduling for the optimal resource slicing and allocation.

Final report including PON and SDM RAN integration

This deliverable summarizes the studies on integration of PONs within the SDM-based RAN fronthaul architecture exploiting the spatial diversity provided by the fiber medium.

Physical architecture, system and network requirements

The purpose is to list and categorize the possible solutions and primarily specify the required extensions for the support of the SDM capabilities offered by the network. The solutions are then adapted to the proposed architecture with emphasis on: a) the network dimensioning and coverage, including the number of supported RRU sites b) the exact definition of the operating parameters, including (and not limited to) the number of wavelengths per fiber/core, the frequency bands to be considered, the targeted modulation formats, c) the end user coverage options considering the required and supported number of antenna elements per RRU and the grouping of elements supported by the SDM approach.

Report on the final test-bed functionalities that are supported and the modules that have been successfully integrated

Report on compatibility issues with other 5G backhaul solutions and interfacing requirements

This deliverable analyses the compatibility between the blueSPACE architecture and other 5G backhaul solutions proposed in other 5G-PPP projects and resource groups, presenting possible extensions, modifications and interfacing requirements for the relevant network infrastructure, control and orchestration technologies.

Cost and power consumption evaluation studies

This report cover the outcome of the evaluation of the technical solutions in terms of capital cost and energy consumption. The cost analysis focuses initially on the extraction of the expected system cost values for the proposed transmitter-receiver solutions and any added module in the system (e.g. the beam forming element). The study also considers the number of elements required for a fully deployed SDM architecture and compares this to other 5G solutions that are based only on the use of WDM. Similarly the power consumption values are extracted for the proposed solutions and the overall power consumption of the CO and the RRU sites is evaluated. Then the overall SDM-enabled fronthaul network cost is evaluated (including in the comparison both DRoF and ARoF) considering all the required elements and proposed technology solutions.
