Objective
Based on an existing syntax-oriented editor (the MENTOR system of INRIA, Fr) and on existing software testbeds (including static program analysis and test coverage indication) for other languages, commercialized by LDRA, both partners co-operated to extend these systems to support the Ada language.
Based on the technique of syntax-oriented manipulation of programs, CISI Ingenierie developed a common abstract manipulation system, a parser and partial semantic checks (identification, overloading resolution). On the basis of this kernel, LDRA implemented analysis and instrumentation tools for Ada while CISI Ingenierie built a bit-map oriented syntactic editor (combining many features of text-oriented editors with specific support for the Ada language). An original incremental parsing/decompilation algorithm is used to achieve a high degree of user-friendliness for this editor.
LDRA has continued the development of the Ada testbed after the end of the project and has a commercial product available now (with buyers including Sema-Metra and British Aerospace) while CISI has plans to commercialise an improved version of the editor.
