Poor air quality cost the WHO European Area €1.47Tn annually and causes 600,000 premature deaths. Electric vehicles are a potential solution to this and also offer substantially reduced well-to wheel CO2 emission reductions, compared with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. However, charging infrastructure makes journeys >160km problematic and could cause issues with grid supply.
ZAPINAMO works like a power bank for a mobile phone, but bigger and faster for EV charging. In this project, we focused on two initial market opportunities:
• The ZapStore; an EV fast-charging point without the need for expensive infrastrutcre modifications
• The ZuPa; a mobile charge-delivery vehicle.
Our objectives were:
1. Identify countries/areas for ZAPINAMO hubs where there is greatest immediate need for our innovative approach to EV charging
2. Identify stakeholders that our EV charging infrastructure will be most beneficial to (for example, airport operators, fleet operators, gasoline forecourts and highway operators)
3. Determine the regulatory and training requirements for EU-wide rollout of the ZapStore and ZuPa
4. Establish supply chain partners, manufacturing capability, and sales teams
5. Determine the route (licensing/direct selling), time to market and barriers to entry by territory
6. To produce a detailed business plan for the selected territories
