An assessment and treatment tool for visual dysfunctions in children

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - EyeWideVision (An assessment and treatment tool for visual dysfunctions in children)

Reporting period: 2017-12-01 to 2018-04-30

It is estimated that approximately 30-50% of the children (5-15 years old) suffer from some visual functional dysfunctions, and 10% of them have a serious impairment that affects their daily life. Once detected, 95-100% of the visual dysfunction cases can be corrected through training, but only 2% of the patients are being treated currently and only 1% of the optometrists are providing these services due to lack of resources.
There is an increasing demand for devices for early diagnosing and better treating visual limitations. According to Persistence Market Research, the global clinical devices for the visual function assessment market is anticipated to grow o USD 42,685 million in 2020 at a CAGR of 6.5%.
WIVI is an assessment and training tool for visual dysfunctions personalized for each user and the specialist based on immersive 3D techniques, which provides a complete cognitive, neural and physic phases assessment of the visual system in its full extension.
The feasibility study has enabled us to validate its business idea. Our scope is to establish WIVI as a worldwide standard in visual dysfunction assessment and training, supporting it in real-time high assessment rates, cheaper and faster clinical practices.
During the SME Instrument Phase 1 project, WIVI has been tested on 30 children (6-15 years old), reaching high accuracy in measurements. WIVI reduces significantly the standard treatment period , and each session duration is reduced by 75% (just 20 min/session), while collecting 50 parameters for statistical reporting.
Current methods available on the market are with subjective measures, just for one visual area, based on the specialist knowledge, a mean of one hour per session and subjective, expensive, unnatural, limited stimulus, complex to use, non-repetitive conditions to assess or training, and most importantly none of them use a holistic approach as WIVI was conceived for.
Having confirmed the market acceptance and potential, we ambition to achieve an assembly capacity and commercialize our solution on target markets. We intend to innovate the world of vision care through technological and scientifical innovation at an affordable price to the population. WIVI offers not only assessment but also personalized training of detected dysfunctions, improving reading speed, comprehension, concentration and achieving better social integration, thus major improvement in quality of life of people with visual dysfunctions.
