European Researchers' Night We Create Science and History

Periodic Reporting for period 2 - WeCreate (European Researchers' Night We Create Science and History)

Reporting period: 2019-02-01 to 2019-10-31

The main objectives of the project We Create Science ang History:

To increase the awareness of the general public (in particular young people) with regard to:
a) The role of science and researchers in everyday life by pointing out the importance of research, discoveries and innovations which have a direct impact on the life and development of the civilisation;
b) Ground-breaking scientific discoveries which changed the world in the context of the cultural heritage year;
c) Personal and professional benefits resulting from the fact of being a researcher by describing the profession of a researcher, which provides innumerable opportunities for development, learning the world, modern and innovative working methods, as well as combining passion and the development of professional career;
d) The reduction in stereotypes about the researcher’s work in the closed laboratory isolated from the rest of the world;
e) Financing research and the development of scientific staff through various EU programmes and mechanisms;
f) Encourage young people to study and conduct research in Europe.


The project: We Create Science and History was carried out in accordance with the objectives, and the expected results were achieved.
AWARNESS CAMPAIGN:

Public at large regardless of age and scientific background; Special attention to be paid to children and young people, especially about making career choice

Throughout the duration of the project are carried out the activities on Children University. The special education offer was developed for schools in Szczecin and the region. The high school graduates were included in the program: “You can be a researchers”. During the event all participants were involved in a specially prepared agenda. The representatives of employers were invited to participate in the activity. Companies in the technology industry have prepared special shows of modern equipment.

Pre-events: like open workshops for groups , invitation to schools and groups to develop their own project modules before ERN'19 at secondary schools‘ premises in Szczecin and the cities within 100 km radius from the city of Szczecin;.
More than 200 locations (schools and cultural centers) in 18 cities: Szczecin, Police, Stargard, Gryfino, Pyrzyce, Przybiernów, Goleniów, Gryfino, Kołbaskowo, Wysoka Kamieńska, Mirosławiec, Myślibórz, Przelewice, Piecnik, Lipiany, Świdwin, Szczecinek, Wałcz.

AIRING of promotional spots, announcements, interviews, programmes on several radio and TV station (regional and national)

Publication of articles, announcements, advertisements in regional and national press.

Press conference with the participation of the local media and university authorities.

9-10 August,2019 - Pyromagic – fireworks international show. On September 7 we had a promotional stand at the end of summer at Grodzka Island during the Bulwarove Event, which took place at the Old Town during the whole summer.
The leaflets were also distributed during the local events: 07.09 and 14.09 (exhibitions children's assortment and school industry fairs)

Online:
Revamping and constant updating of project website;
Links with partners, institutional and popular websites;

All promotional materials were made in accordance with the requirements of the project. Appropriate marking and information on financing has been provided.

Programme of activities:

SZCZECIN
Over 200 attractions in the program, workshops, lectures with scientists, experiments.
Design and creativity: colour at the times of photography, workshops in manual modelling.
Poster and multi-media exhibitions: "Inventions, which have changed our lives” , “Scientists are among us” , “Horizon 2020 unites people by the means of science”.
Laser show, illuminations on buildings and large-format cinema. “We create a map of science and history”, large-size collage created by public.
Big test of knowledge about the European Union, conducted out in the city by students disguised as some famous scientists;
Organized tours in the city, focused on the cultural heritage aspect (in co-operation with the museums and the West-Pomeranian Association of Urban Guides);
A stratospheric balloon was released into the air, which at a height of several thousand meters with measuring sensors. Performances by the most popular science bloggers in Poland - Crazy Science. Lectures and presentations by young scientists from the Polish-wide scientific association. Shows of the Polish astronomical society. Shows of the largest science centers from Poland. Plant adoption point. Replacement of plastic bags for organic cotton bags. Bread and pizza pastries. Demonstrations related to the creation of the Maritime Science Center. Virtual reality shows. A great game organized by the National Bank of Poland related to the role of the monetary unit.


STARGARD
Lectures, experiments and presentation of experiments in schools co-operating with university (chemistry, physics, mathematics, medicine, biology, nature, history). competitions;
Conducted by our university teachers, in collaboration with the partner schools;

SATURDAY
Demonstrations, lectures, workshops, and experiments in laboratories at universities divided into thematic zones;
For teachers taking part in the project, RCITT will prepare a set of training courses in communication with the public, so that the communicated information and knowledge were comprehensible and effective to the people;

European corners
Located in a frequented area 2 on ZUT Campus and one in Stargard;
Offering: the European flag, connections to all relevant EU websites (list to be provided by REA), demonstration about at least one local research project EU-supported in the area considered, interactive activities;
Games and quizzes on information about EU for the youngest guests, Instagram photo competitions, presentation of scientific patents, inventions and innovative solutions of the research staff of ZUT and universities taking part in the project in the specially prepared GALLERY OF SCIENCE; a test on EU for teenagers and students, about how Horyzont 2020 chance the face of science; information about UE and opportunities offered by Horyzont 2020.
Due to the scale of the project and the large number of participants and partners, other educational centers in the region have expressed a desire to take part in the next edition as project partners.
