What is the problem/issue being addressed?
As live streaming on phones becomes more and more popular across the world, broadcasters and live stream content creators have a bandwidth challenge. ENHANCEplayer address this by moving some of the cost away from bandwidth to local processing using upres models developed by Artomatix.
Why is it important for society?
More information can be shared more widely by more people in real time. This has very clear ramifications in mobile first developing economies, where bandwidth is often a strong barrier to entry for companies sharing content that the majority of users will watch on mobile devices.
What are the overall objectives?
Overall objectives is to create upres models that will enable broadcasters to push livestream content at a lower resolution and then have the ENHANCEplayer feature upres it in real time at a high quality.
At the halfway point of the project, we've been able to build a protoype app for Android and iOS, with the following limitations that we're working to expand:

Android can handle live 2x upres with a 100x100 input, but is experiencing some quality issues that we are troubleshooting.
iOS 11 can handle live 2x upres with a 200x200 input, or 4x upres with a 120x100 input

THEOplay and Artomatix have out together an initial sales and marketing plan, although the focus is on optimizing performance and product development.

The remaining partners have provided training videos and feedback on industry needs.
As we're still early in development, with a live app still a few months away, we are not able to evaluate potential impact outside of the expected results.
