Integration of Heat flux sensor in (wrist) wearable devices for accurately and non-invasively continuous monitoring of core body temperature (CBT) for the early detection of health-related disorders

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - gSKIN BodyTemp (Integration of Heat flux sensor in (wrist) wearable devices for accurately and non-invasively continuous monitoring of core body temperature (CBT) for the early detection of health-related disorders)

Reporting period: 2018-12-01 to 2019-03-31

Wearable biosensor systems for fitness and health monitoring have become popular in the last years, however, until now, there is no wearable technology available for accurately monitor core body temperature (CBT), which is one of the five most relevant vital parameters directly related with physical function and health conditions in humans. To overcome these needs, greenTEG has developed the first thermal sensor for non-invasive, wireless and continuous CBT monitoring to be integrated in wrist wearable devices.
greenTEG carried out an extensive feasibility study for their innovative heat flux sensor in wearable devices. The objective was to address the feasibility of technical activities to ensure greenTEG integration into smart watches and enforce commercialization and exploitation strategy of the project by means of an FTO analysis, a detailed business plan, and a financial feasibility assessment.
We defined a product plan for the fully integration of the sensor into a wrist wearable device. We also performed a detailed list of clinics centres for the validation and the procedures to carry them out. We currently have two patent application and we have developed an IPR strategy covering IPR infringement, protection and exploitation of our product. We carried out a patent search analysis and we concluded that greenTEG has not infringed on any established IP. We developed a business feasibility assessment involved contacting key stakeholders, end-users, and potential partners, giving us the opportunity to expand the scope of our development, having a better understanding of client´s and competitor´s needs. Finally, we carried out a financial assessment in which we performed an in-depth cost/benefit analysis and we evaluated the total investment requirements to bring gSKIN BT to the market. We conclude that the gSKIN BT project is feasible and go therefore ahead with a Phase 2 preparation.
gSKIN BT goes beyond other CBT measuring sensors such as catheters, oesophageal and rectal probes or radio pills being the first solution for a CBT continuously monitoring 24h/7days, and therefore being the only solution suitable for wearable devices.
