Market maturation of the first electric superbike with digital technology for tuning control and improved safety

Project description

Biking in the digital age

Electric cars may be taking the market by storm, but electric bikes are lagging far behind. Fenris is a Danish start-up company focused on high-performance electric motorcycles. The company has already developed and road tested two electric superbike (e-superbike) prototypes. It is now developing its first model for commercial production. The Fenris e-superbike is being designed and built to be the world’s fastest and safest of its kind, outperforming all competitors. In addition, the novel motorcycle will be the first “smart” bike, enabling advanced data-driven services to the individual rider, insurance company, supplier and more. Creation of more than 30 new direct jobs is expected in the first five years of commercialisation.

Objective

The electric motorcycles industry is still lagging behind its electric cars counterpart, mainly due to (i) much lower pressure to
reduce emissions (emissions norms applied to motorcycles are currently significantly less strict than for cars, and are
expected to remain as such at least over the next 10 years) and (ii) strong barriers for traditional ICE-based OEMs to move
into electric technology (which means a radical shift in terms of design & engineering, production facilities, marketing &
sales). Yet, high-performance e-motorcycles already represent a large market potential (estimated in the order of €900M)
with expected fast growth (anchored on drivers related to environment, technology/performance, and reducing costs) –
providing an opportunity for start-ups to take the lead on a blue ocean market space.

Fenris is a Danish start-up company focused on high-performance electric motorcycles. The company has developed and
road tested two electric superbike (e-superbike) prototypes and is now entering the zero-series development phase for its
first model intended for serial production and commercialization. Fenris e-superbike model RR150RR is designed and built
to be the world’s fastest and safest e-superbike outperforming all competitors, including the leading OEMs that still rely on
internal combustion engine technology. Fenris RL150RR will deliver the highest torque and acceleration in the market, while
being at least 20% lighter than the closest electric competitor (Energica EGO). In addition, our superbike will be the first
“smart” and connected motorcycle in the market – enabling advanced data-driven services to the individual rider and across
the value chain (e.g. to component suppliers, insurance companies, etc.).

The market roll-out of our paradigm-shifting e-superbike is expected to create a major business opportunity for Fenris,
untapping a very significant revenue stream and creating >30 new direct jobs in the first 5 years of commerciali
