Periodic Reporting for period 3 - InterConnect (Interoperable Solutions Connecting Smart Homes, Buildings and Grids)
Reporting period: 2022-10-01 to 2024-03-31
• Demonstration and large scale piloting of the different interoperable solutions and services
• Creating the grounds for the development of energy applications supported by the Common European Reference Framework (CERF)
• Supporting the 2nd Open Call for the implementation of 7 additional demonstration of energy applications in different EU member states
The project has successfully engaged several stakeholders and entities, EU-wide, in the deployment of services and technologies for the citizens, allowing them to make use of buildings (residential and tertiary) and related flexible assets (ex. electric vehicles, HVAC systems, whitegoods, etc.) to improve the interconnection of the different services (i.e. using semantic interoperability in a transparent and seamless way) and being able to take better decision regarding the energy use and the ability to support the electric system operation.
The following objectives were accomplished:
• Development of the semantic interoperability framework and its tools.
• Create the necessary software components and modules to support the project services.
• Carry out the demonstrators in 7 countries (and overarching) with the installation of technologies and integration of digital platforms.
• Demonstrate the semantic interoperability components and framework in practice.
• Implement a novel methodology to support the CERF
• Consolidate the three main project key exploitable results: Semantic Interoperability Framework (SIF), DSO Interface (DSOi) and the Interoperable Recommender (IR).
Main Results and Exploitation:
------------------------------------------------------
- Semantic Interoperability Framework (SIF)
SAREF-ready ontologies and it is offered as a framework so that integrators choose which components to utilize/deploy.
SIF is deployed in the 7 large scale pilots (50 integrators) of InterConnect
Innovation status: being exploited and will be commercially exploited after project to the market (1-3yr)
Innovation type: significantly improved process & new process
Level of innovation: negligible presence in the market and still new and with high potential of exploitation
Multiple owners: INESC TEC, TNO, Vizlore
SIF’s sustainability
JRC Code of Conduct for Energy Smart Appliances
Big Data Value Association
Linux Foundation for Energy
- DSO Interface (DSOi)
The DSO Interface serves as a gateway between DSO systems and market entities, with the primary objective of:
1.Defining communication models between DSO’s and market parties for the purposes of enabling demand side flexibility services
2.Open data sharing
3.Enhanced network observability
4.Distribution of grid-level signals to support the CERF
DSO Interface leverages on syntactic and semantic interoperable mechanisms, such as the SIF.
The DSO Interface will act on the grid edge to ease the data exchange between flexibility and service providers.
Status: under development, new product, obviously innovative and easily appreciated advantages to customer, new market, little competition on market, TTM 5-10yr.
Partners delivering DSO Interface to market: E.DSO E-REDES
- ElektroLjubljana has explored further the use of DSOi in collaboration with the Open Call participants
E.DSO committed to exploit the results from the DSO Interface within its community.
- Interoperable Recommender
A solution which leverages the SIF to facilitate data exchange between EU member states on grid availability and vulnerability, to provide advice to EU citizens on when how to optimize their energy consumption to mitigate grid management challenges and contribute to ensure resilience of the grid.
