A novel, cost-, time- and energy-efficient, electric hammer to replace the traditional hydraulic hammer

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - LEKAEH (A novel, cost-, time- and energy-efficient, electric hammer to replace the traditional hydraulic hammer)

Reporting period: 2019-06-01 to 2019-11-30

Context - In this project we got in touch with selected potential customers to our innovative concept in the field of electrical transformation of working machines. We selected customers from different potential segments, demonstrated them our technology and interviewed them for more insight in our development work. We aim to form co-operation with selected parties in the market in the next development step which should result significant benefits to both parties.
We also continued the technical development of the actual technology and continued the work towards closer defining the product requirements of the entry segment that has been chosen.
Furthermore, we have evolved the business plan of Lekatech and worked on the financing for the next development step.
Objectives – It was in the core of our working to get both the commercial and technical confirmation of the feasibility of the concept. The commercial feasibility was to be measured by the interest of significant customers to co-operate in the further development and commercialization of the concept. The technical feasibility was measured by reaching the set targets for the performance of the concept.
Importance to the Society – Electric transformation of off-road machines reduces the local contaminating effect of diesel engines. The favourable development is held back by the connecting work machines. Lekatech technology enables and accelerates the use of electric machines by providing clear performance benefits and cost savings through drastically reduced energy consumption compared to existing hydraulic technologies.
Results and Impact – In general terms the results have been very encouraging. 1) We have not confronted any show stopper to advance the concept further. 2) We have received only encouraging and interested feedback from all stakeholders (customers, financers, technology partners). 3) There is willingness to invest in bringing the concept to market. 4) The technology concept delivers the expected performance and more while further testing is still needed.
The reached results are shadowed slightly by the delay in schedule due to poor performance of some technology partners. However, the difficulties are repairable by nature and help us in the planning forward.
The conclusion of the project is that we will continue strong proceeding it and will build the next stages to co-operations with selected partners.
Progress and Social Impact – Lekatech technology is novel to the construction and mining markets. It will result in reduction of energy used for construction and mining activities. It will also contribute to reducing disturbance caused by construction sites through emitting less noise and requiring less work time. Moreover, it functions as catalyst for the electrification trend in construction and mining industries.
