Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

Yetitablet is the innovation of Kuori Oy, a hardware startup based in Finland. The company was founded in 2015 by Maria and Jarkko Jokelainen, two experienced IT, marketing and management experts who sought to create a technology product to assist their own children with Asperger’s syndrome. They realized the benefits of large tablets to assist in educational and communication activities, but were disappointed by the limited functionality and usability of existing giant touchscreens. They created Yetitablet to fill this market void.

Yetitablets aim to become the world’s leading giant touchscreen tablets. They use a unique Android operating system and function just like a smartphone, which is just what users demand and expect from a large interactive screen. Yetitablet is filling a lucrative market void. Several large interactive panels already exist, but they are clumsy, slow and have restrictive proprietary software. Many require training to use. They are repeating the same mistake of old mobile phone manufacturers - locking the software.

The aim of this feasibility study was to analyse the feasibility from different perspectives: the study covered technical, market and financial feasibility. The results were gathered to a full business plan for the global commercialisation of the technology.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

In this project Kuori evaluated technical needs, risks and mitigation measures and detailed a plan to reach TRL 9. Kuori reviewed the current market situation and recognised the potential for global commercialisation. Kuori performed the financial planning for the next five years and to assessed financial risks. Kuori developed a convincing Business plan comprising of the outcomes of the feasibility assessments.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

Europe has an aging population and many citizens with disabilities. At the same time, many public and private services are transitioning to digital service delivery. Accessing basic services via small screens is difficult for a growing number of people. Large tablets will ensure all citizens can connect to the internet and apps, which are fast becoming essential. Kuori is optimizing it's solutions for the elderly with the YetiCare platform. Kuori expects to be the leading provider of large tablets in the Healthcare sector within three years. Yetitablet helps meet the European Commission's goal of overcoming digital exclusion by enabling digital access for all.
