Project description
Smart parking management
Parking management creates many economic, environmental and infrastructural problems that affect the quality of life in cities. An obvious solution is the creation of smart parking spaces that can optimise the use of existing infrastructure and resources, leading to a better service for end-users and optimised operational costs for parking providers. The Slovak GOSPACE Tech has utilised its expertise in space research and Internet-of-Things (IoT) networks to develop Fleximodo, a superior IoT parking solution. Fleximodo is the only solution with manufacturing and connectivity standards (LPWAN) expected from components used for space satellites. The EU-funded Fleximodo project will conduct a feasibility study and develop a business plan for future successful commercialisation of this technology.
Objective
Outdated parking management leads to a range of economic, environmental and infrastructural inefficiencies which affect the quality of life in cities. Adoption of smart parking solutions can optimize the use of existing infrastructure and resources, leading to a better service for end-users and optimized operational costs for parking providers. However, existing solutions have limitations that range from inaccurate measurements, weak battery life, sustainability (lack of control of deployed infrastructure) and its reliance on expensive proprietary protocols with no chance for massive deployment that is possible via cutting edge LPWAN of existing cellular networks with nationwide presence.
Furthermore, the smart parking market is growing fast: European market is expected to grow by 9.6% CAGR during 2018-2024, the North American will grow by 18,4% CAGR in the next 3 years. Therefore, GOSPACE utilized its expertise in space research and IoT-networks to develop Fleximodo, a superior IoT parking solution. As a result, compared to competitors, Fleximodo is the only solution with manufacturing and connectivity standards (LPWAN) expected from components used for space satellites. Its detection technology relies on 3-axis magnetic field and unique corrective algorithm detecting occupancy with a nearly 100% success rate. GOSPACE parking detectors are compatible with all major IoT networks and provide seamless firmware updating. The authorization and authentication features, applicable in multiple use-cases, further position GOSPACE to fill the gap in the on-street smart parking market.
Lastly, each detector is shielded in a special case which is extremely durable & resistant to any violation and extreme conditions. The main objectives of Phase 1 of SME Instrument are to develop an elaborate feasibility study including through user needs analysis, a pilot test, partner strategy, and an elaborate business plan, which are crucial for Fleximodo’s successful commercialization.
