Project description
Hystrix medical- Digital Market Place for Medical Devices
Existing healthcare procurement systems in Europe are complicated by repetitive processes that increase costs and delays for stakeholders. The EU-funded hystrix project is the first digital marketplace for medical products in Europe and Switzerland that extends beyond pure tendering, to provide healthcare providers and suppliers with an accelerated procurement experience. It is also the first marketplace in Europe seeking to establish a national volume-driven market-price (rather than a hospital-specific price) for commodity medtech products i.e. those products that are replenishing in nature and require little or no explanation. By contracting on the hystrix medical marketplace, procurers and suppliers alike can reduce related costs by as much as 50 %. All the while freeing up their team members to focus on strategic priorities.
Objective
Across Europe and the globe, there is unprecedented financial pressure on healthcare players and providers, which, in turn, makes the European MedTech landscape increasingly challenging. As public procurement becomes more sophisticated, price transparency is growing, and demand for integrated solutions is driving changes in product offers, requiring new sales channels and tactics. The procurement of medical products, equipment and technologies in the health system is complicated by suboptimal, duplicated or repetitive processes which increase costs and delays for all stakeholders. hystrix medical AG was founded in August 2017 and their mission is to drastically accelerate everyday processes in the healthcare sector and to realise substantial efficiencies for healthcare providers and MedTech suppliers alike, so that they can focus on what really matters, patient outcome. The hystrix medical marketplace is the first digital marketplace for medical products in Switzerland and Europe that extends beyond pure tendering support to provide Healthcare providers (HCPs) and MedTech suppliers with an accelerated procurement experience, access to transact at market prices, smart contracting between counterparties, automated approval processing, and the opportunity to significantly redeploy FTE time and cost to more value additive tasks. The hystrix marketplace provides top performance while reducing the procurement process from months to minutes and reducing costs by 40 to 50% on commodity product procurement. The estimated savings in the Swiss hospital sector alone from the introduction the hystrix marketplace is €324m (CHF365M i.e. CHF1.3 M per hospital on average across the 283 hospitals). The time and relative cost savings estimated for Switzerland are foreseen within the EU market regardless of the relative price adjustment. The total expenditure on commodity MedTech products in Europe’s key markets (UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, etc.) was estimated to be €52bn
