Project description
A lower limb prosthesis that provides sensory feedback is moving toward certification
Lower limb amputation has significant impact on a person’s quality of life, including physical and mental health. Prostheses can restore some motor function but they currently do not restore touch and movement sensations, making the prosthetic more like a tool rather than an extension of the living body. Sensory feedback is instrumental to gait. Without it, patients are more likely to fall, lose confidence, and walk less, increasing risks for many diseases associated with a sedentary lifestyle. GoSafe has developed a neuroprosthesis integrated with a patient's nerves, partially restoring sensations. It has been featured in the prestigious journals Nature Medicine and Science Translational Medicine. Now, EU funding is supporting industrial development, preclinical and clinical trials, regulatory approval, and the development of a reimbursement strategy.
