Development of a low-cost, remotely controlled hydraulic valve system for increasing recovery rates from hydrocarbon res

Objective

The objective is to develop European technology that can dramatically contribute to increase recovery rates from hydrocarbon reservoirs. The technology is a smart well completion system, which can be remotely operated by means of an innovative hydraulic valve system for optimum reservoir management. Attempts in the industry to introduce an electro-hydraulic system have often failed in the harsh down-hole environment and is very expensive.

The objective of the proposed technology is therefore to develop a purely hydraulic controlled system for obtaining high reliability, and to design it as a low-cost system for use in both high and low producers. Initial trials have proved the functionality and detailed design is underway. It is therefore proposed to develop a technical prototype and test it in simulated well conditions at a test facility. If successful, the technology can increase the recovery rate from applicable reservoirs by 10 percent.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
