"The anthropogenic climate change is one of the key challenges for humanity in the 21th century. In order to mitigate this huge problem and the scarcity of resources, an essential acceleration of the energy transformation to renewable energies is necessary. On the other hand, the steady growth of urbanization and enhanced drive for digitisation in smart cities require decentralised energy production at the points of consumption. These two factors combined will increase the demand for sustainable generated electricity significantly.
SOLMOVE develops horizontal photovoltaic modules, which can be glued on cycle paths, streets, squares or track systems. SOLAR CARPET is the technology based on proven photovoltaic combined with an innovative, stable glass surface that can be bonded to horizontal surfaces. No road reconstruction is needed. The solar modules applied are extraordinary robust and durable and can be quickly and easily installed with a ""plug-in system"". The glass surface morphology guides sun light in a verifiably optimized way to the underlying solar cells in comparison to plane surfaces. The modules are non-slip, have a better noise absorption vs. asphalt and superior to other surface constructions trough it’s de-icing capabilities. New features like self-illumination, display of traffic information, integrated sensors and combination with inductive charging plates are envisaged.
In the feasibility study, a detailed analysis of the best-fitting markets was conducted, including the involvement of pilot customers for the validation of the business idea, as well as the elaboration of a thorough business plan for commercialisation. One of the main activities, apart from updating the market study, was to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the competition and the lessons learnt from the first pilot projects. This study was used to validate the technical and commercial viability and find key strengths and weaknesses of the present solution. A technological roadmap, including research and the involvement of key strategic partners, has been developed. This includes the realization of new unique products and market expansion into Asia and North America.
The findings of the feasibility study will be integrated into the subsequent SME Phase 2 project to perfectly facilitate the market introduction."
