Intelligent and serverless, cloud-based infrastructure for medical diagnostic devices

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - KiCloud (Intelligent and serverless, cloud-based infrastructure for medical diagnostic devices)

Reporting period: 2019-12-01 to 2020-09-30

Upon working in the healthcare industry, we have learned that 44% of all European hospitals and health centres spend an hour per day on repetitive administrative tasks by scanning and printing digital medical diagnostics data for collection in the patient´s electronic medical records (EMR). In addition, we have detected, due to the situation with the Covid-19, that the sector not only needs the digitization but also requires advanced DIGITAL TELEMEDICINE services.

The need for systems capable of offering telemedicine and patient follow-up has been highlighted, offering convenient, quality, greater efficiency and reducing costs meanwhile providing more access to services.
Considering the ageing of the population at risk of developing hearing and respiratory diseases, telemedicine, or in this case the combination of tele-audiology and tele-spirometry, represents an attractive solution to increase the quality of diagnostic and care while reducing health care costs.

For the reasons given above, the original concept of the product, as an IoT medical device diagnostic cloud platform enhanced with AI capabilities, has evolved towards a TELEMEDICINE platform with IoT medical devices with AI diagnostic capabilities.
The main task performed in recent months has been to evaluate the product with key opinion leaders and redefine the business model of the company:
• Evaluate the requirements and options for clinical evaluation
• Preparation of a technical risk assessment and define mitigation and contingency plans
• Evaluation of regulatory compliance (EU 2017/745 Medical Device Regulation ISO13485:2016, and planning of certification process
• Perform a market study of the European markets and identify potential partners and clients
• Identify new distribution partners in Asian and Latam markets
• Conduct a full Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) analysis and define the best IP Strategy to protect and exploit KiCloud
• Financial Feasibility analysis
A new tele-health platform (KiCloud) with IoT medical devices and AI diagnostic capabilities where the professional can perform tele audiometry and /or tele spirometry and get AI diagnostic improvements in the diagnosis has been designed The patient can exchange information about his health status and the medical staff can make a functional assessment and monitor the progress of the patient over time.

Economic benefits: KiCloud lowers medical diagnostics costs by providing telehealth services and saving diagnosis data in the cloud and HIS system directly so that it will be available to any stakeholder at all times, thereby reducing the current administrative hassle of analogue data processing without printing any paper.
Social benefits: KiCloud provide EU patients with secure, resilient and fast data storage and processing according to the latest technology; allows to extend the health service access to broader population, increasing the productivity of health professionals with reductions in waiting times and process times to the population; moreover, improves healthcare in rural areas and reduces of property costs by lowering maintenance costs and incidents.
