An implementation Programme of ESPRIT CIM Technologies in Small and Traditional Manufacturing Industries

Objective

DONQ-CIM will develop, apply and generalise a method for preparing SMEs in traditional industries for the implementation of CIM technologies. DONQ-CIM opens a dissemination channel for developments and results obtained under the ESPRIT programme directed towards SMEs in technologically less developed industrial regions.

The DONQ-CIM technology dissemination concept is a hands-on and learn-by-doing activity programme that identifies, at an early stage, a number of SME traditional industrial sites, and then provides the SMEs concerned with the tools and guidance necessary to initiate the quantum leap from traditional industrial practice into "lean management" organisations automated with CIM tools. Guidance will be provided on the managerial, organisational and technological aspects involved.

The initial group of SMEs will be selected in Castilla La Mancha (Spain), an industrially less developed region of southern Europe. To ensure that the method is of general application to traditional SMEs throughout the European Union, a generalisation exercise will be carried out in Northern Ireland (United Kingdom).
