High-speed data-processing software framework that speeds up and streamlines processes in the space, aerospace, robotics and IoT industries

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - Klepsydra (High-speed data-processing software framework that speeds up and streamlines processes in the space, aerospace, robotics and IoT industries)

Reporting period: 2019-12-01 to 2020-03-31

Smart mobility related systems (e.g. autonomous vehicles), space equipment and IoT devices generate too much data at a high rate. All of them need to process it in real-time in order to make safety and/or mission critical decisions. However, there are no easy solutions in the market to speed up data-processing. It requires increasingly-complex software (which demands more energy) or hardware workarounds (which entail for additional on-board power sources and increase the applications’ weight, complexity and power consumption). There is a massive unmet need in edge computing for new ways to process the data in a computationally undemanding and fast way.
Klepsydra Software is a lightweight, platform-agnostic software development toolset for embedded systems. The platform is an easy-to-use, accessible software framework aimed at building high-performance and quality space, aerospace, smart mobility and IoT embedded applications. Therefore, Klepsydra is a cross-industry enabler, making faster and easier innovation development processes possible and contributing to achieve the most challenging goals in different fields through a superior performance.
A feasibility study is needed to confirm that there is a real market opportunity for the product whilst the conditions for the commercialisation are beneficial.
Creation of a work plan of technical activities needed to complete the innovation, divided in four main areas: Matlab Klepsydra Blockset, Klepsydra Computer Vision Toolbox, OEMs integration, and Testing & Validation.
According to the market analysis, the global embedded software market will exceed €18 billion by 2025. The increase in the demand for open source Linux software & RTOS software is expected to offer a lucrative growth to the embedded software market.
The freedom-to-operate analysis demonstrates that Klepsydra is not-infringing patents or pending patent applications of others. Klepsydra has decided to protect its software in every target market through copyright.
Klepsydra is expected to generate €47.7M of revenues during the period 2020-2026, and a total net profit of €14.9M. The company will hire 12 new employees during the project (Q4 2020-Q3 2022) and another 24 employees between 2022 and 2026.
This project will have a remarkable impact on Klepsydra´s performance, allowing to accelerate the release of its innovative solution to the market as an enabler for innovation in some of the most exciting challenges of the next decades.
