Objective "This project aims to understand certain quantum aspects of black hole physics, in particular its entropy and the degrees of freedom associated with the horizon. The many states in which a black hole can exist can be understood through a ""hologram"" living in one dimension less than the black hole. This idea of a hologram has proved to be very fruitful in recent work in string theory. Our work aims to extend these successes to situations where high curvature effects are important and can be systematically be taken into account. This would advance our understanding of a quantum theory of gravity and provide deep insights into the quantum structure of spacetime."
