Common Land Management in Upland Wales

Objectif

The project will investigate methods of improving management and reconciling different interests for a category of land with high landscape, wildlife, recreation and agricultural values.

A small project team backed up by the National Park Authority and Countryside Council for Wales will

i) engage contract surveyors to prepare a sound information base for 20750 ha of common land;

ii) work with a range of interests to develop innovative techniques for better management of the commons, and begin to implement those improved practices;

iii) raise awareness of the problems associated with management of large areas of extensively farmed semi-natural habitat.
