Objectif To reduce traffic congestion and air pollution in the Lancaster City Centre by persuading more car drivers to use collective forms of transportThe project will design and monitor a bus lane for use by passenger vehicles carrying 3 or more persons and will assess the extent of the necessary enforcement to ensure satisfactory observance. The project will also design the requirements for 2 park and ride faciliites and introduce changes in the parking policy in the Lancaster City Centre. The measures will be closely monitored to establish their individual effects on travel patterns, traffic flows and the switch from private to public transport or car sharing, and also to assess the effect of synergy. It is proposed to monitor air quality on the two traffic routes serving the city centre and to assess the effects of the changes following the introduction of the collective transport measures and the changes in parking policy.
