Training for new technologies and working practices in the European foundry industry

Objective

OBJECTIVES
Against the current background of industrial change, the metal-casting industry requires a flexible workforce capable of rapidly acquiring the skills necessary for using new technologies. Tools must therefore be devised which allow open and distance learning and which can be used by all the European partners. The objective of the project is to develop innovative distance-training programmes by selecting the best tools available on the training market. This training will be aimed specifically at young people who have recently started work and at unemployed people.

ACTIVITIES
Initially the partners will try to identify the qualification requirements of the European metal-casting sector. They will then analyse existing training programmes, methods and tools. They will select the most relevant of these in accordance with the needs previously identified and will jointly produce a training programme complying with the qualification requirements of the metal-casting industry, creating innovative training tools.

PRODUCTS
The aim of the project is to create tools which allow open and distance learning such as CD-ROMs, video conferences and simulation tools, etc. This will enable employed people to teach themselves at their place of work and to respond to an increasing demand for qualified operators and technicians in the metal-casting industry.
