Objective
OBJECTIVES
This project comes at a crucial time for the Community's steel construction industry as, in the context of increasing technical change and competitive pressures, it faces educational and training challenges. The objectives are to improve the understanding of the potential for using structural steelwork in construction and to supply relevant technical training for key specifiers, architects and surveyors, and for general contractors and controllers of the construction supply chain.
ACTIVITIES
Training programmes will be developed on the basis of concise statements by the steel construction sector on its expectations with regard to the skills of key specifiers, i.e. architects and surveyors, and important members of the construction supply chain, primarily general contractors. Methods will be evaluated to enable trainers, trainees and their employers to assess the skills which have been gained. The project's products will be disseminated both to the 200 ESDEP (European Steel Design Education Programme) contacts and through them to trainers of architects, surveyors and general contractors throughout the EU.
PRODUCTS
The primary results will be summary information and training on structural steelwork. The material will encompass key knowledge and will explain the potential for using steelwork in building construction. In addition, it will provide specific information on the interaction and interfaces between the manufacture of steel structures and production shops and services, thus permitting an efficient, holistic approach throughout the entire construction sector.
