The tutor / mentor function: a tool to forecast competence needs, develop performance, and facilitate integration

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The aim of the project is to identify and act on the causes of de-skilling in industry by developing and implementing the role of the tutor (or mentor/coach) within companies. The partners propose to professionalise and structure tutorial posts with regard to the tutor's responsibilities in the area of induction and the imparting of skills. The partners will conceptualise instruments for tutors/mentors, with the main aim of facilitating the integration of people who have recently entered the job market.

ACTIVITIES
Initially, the partners will carry out a study of companies' practices and requirements regarding the training of tutors/mentors. The contents and organisational methods of existing tutor training programmes will then be analysed and a training system developed. The training system will then be tested and evaluated in a real-life situation at the partner companies.

PRODUCTS
The system will consist of an interactive multimedia application in French and English. It will include software for controlling and evaluating the introduction of the tutorial post in companies. A CD-ROM will recapitulate and provide more in-depth information on the main points of the training, will analyse the organisational context of the tutorial post, formalise the available knowledge and allow the self-assessment of the tutorial work being carried out.
