Industrial automation network design of innovative training methods for quality enhancement in SMEs

Objective

OBJECTIVES
Cost factors often constrain purchasers to look for suppliers offering low prices on new markets. The result is that traditional European businesses are having to face the prospect of becoming less competitive unless they can guarantee quality products whilst reducing their production costs. The project therefore proposes to produce an innovative continuing training programme for the automation industries. This programme will enable SMEs to acquire new skills but will also respond to the demand for new qualifications and new professional profiles. In parallel, the project will encourage co-operation between universities and companies and equal opportunities for men and women.

ACTIVITIES
In the first phase, the network will identify the training requirements emerging in SMEs with regard to areas linked with the automation industry. The course content will be defined on the basis of this research. This course will use innovative training methods (group work, computer simulation, case studies, self-training modules). Short training courses will be held in several Member States.

PRODUCTS
- A list of subjects dealing with automation in industry which need to be included in the training programme.
- Training material: written documents, audio and video cassettes.
