Objective
OBJECTIVES
In the welding industry, there is a trend towards higher qualification requirements. Welding has progressed from being a low-qualification profession involving simple materials to become a highly qualified profession using complex materials. In 1992, a Qualification Certification standard was introduced on a European level (EN 287), which calls for an ability to use a specific welding process called the TIG process. The acquisition of this level of qualification not only involves mastering the practical application of this welding process but also developing a considerable theoretical knowledge relating to the materials used. The project therefore proposes to create an interactive course on CD-ROM which will enable welders to acquire the requisite theoretical knowledge.
ACTIVITIES
In recent years, the European Federation for Welding, Joining and Cutting (EFW) has co-ordinated training in this sector and has developed guides on training and the certification of qualifications. One of these guides deals with the TIG process, but focuses mainly on the practical side. The partners therefore wish to produce a theoretical training course relating to this process on the basis of the guide already produced by the EFW. This course will be produced on CD-ROM and will be tested and evaluated before being finalised. It will then be translated into the various languages of the partner countries.
