Objective
OBJECTIVES
This project aims to add a European dimension to the initial professional training of young chemists and to improve their language skills, thereby providing a solution to comprehension problems arising from the monopoly position of the English language in this field. Secondly, it aims to improve the quality of existing professional training programmes. The training tools which will be developed will serve as a basis for long distance self-training and for continuing training in this sector.
ACTIVITIES
A comparison of the various European training programmes, together with an analysis of the needs of industry and of higher teaching institutions, will firstly be made. The partners will then proceed with the development of common training modules on video in all the European languages, taking English as the reference language. The methods of working and managing in a laboratory will be filmed and discussed. A glossary will be produced. Finally, the impact of the material produced will be tested with a student exchange.
PRODUCTS
A film on CD-ROM presenting basic methods and working processes in the laboratory, discussed in the various European languages, will be created.
A glossary of the terms and expressions most commonly used will be available in electronic form.
