Training of professionals and of parents faced with severely poly-handicapped people (children, adolescents and adults)

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The European exchange group for the severely handicapped has for a few years been collecting and comparing information and human and material resources available to parents, professionals in the field and university researchers. The EUFORPOLY pilot project aims to enhance and disseminate the legal rights of this group of exchanges by setting up training sessions both for parents and professionals and resource centres. The main impact expected is the prevention of burn-out phenomena amongst both professionals and parents by establishing an exchange, research and training dynamic at local level, and the creation of a transnational partnership embracing all those involved.

ACTIVITIES
A statement of the resources available in the various countries will be drawn up to begin with. A common thesaurus and an upgrading of the existing thesauruses, together with the formation of a network of exchanges on the Internet will then be made operational. Intensive seminar work that brings together training managers, experts in the training profession and parent contacts will be organised to define appropriate strategies. Training initiatives in each country concerned will then be taken at local, regional and/or national level according to a trickle-down effect training model. Priority will be given to the less qualified and to parents. Based on the assessment of these training courses, the work will be distributed more widely and will affect other forms of disability.

PRODUCTS
Creating background material for information and training (data banks, syllabuses, video cassettes, CD-ROM, etc.) from an interactive angle.
