Digital media in nurse education and training

Objective

OBJECTIVES
Although the objective of securing the freedom of all EU citizens to work and study in all EU Member States remains a key objective, progress has been slow. The project aims at assisting the mobility of healthcare professionals - mainly nurses. It is recognised in the EU and EEA that there are significant areas of manpower surplus and shortage in this profession. It is also clear that an absence of vocational language skills can make mobility impractical for many nurses. The project aims to address this problem through the creation of an interactive CD-ROM and associated materials.

ACTIVITIES
The partners have agreed on five scenarios which typify the work of nurses in each national system and which are also common to each system. Nurses in each country will be filmed and recorded so that the specialised vocational language associated with these scenarios can be captured. This will then be incorporated in an interactive framework on CD-ROM and it will be supported with printed material. Cultural and working practice details and differences will be indicated preliminary by using video clips. The product will be evaluated by all the partner, but it is anticipated that a group of healthcare professionals will field test the product before the subsequent steps commence.

PRODUCTS
The project will lead to the development of a vocational training package on CD-ROM and a paper for healthcare professionals. This will have applications for open and distance learning programmes.
