CAD across Europe II - a European study of the employment skills and qualification needs in the design sector for the next century

Objective

OBJECTIVES
Design is critical to product innovation. In order for Europe to successfully compete with the rest of the world in terms of product innovation there must be relevant training actions and measures to meet the anticipated qualification needs. The objective of this project is to examine employment skills and qualification needs of five Member States in the design sector for the next century using the previous study - CAD across Europe - as the basis. The current survey is a pilot study from which a model will be developed and evaluated for later use in a full survey of all Member States. A subsequent aim is to determine whether there are any specific trends emerging from the original study that relate to the computer aided design sector.

ACTIVITIES
A team of experts from the design sector will be established. They will collect information on employment and qualification needs from relevant national organisations and end users. Employment, training and examination institutions will be consulted. Recommendations for measures and actions to provide design personnel with necessary employment skills and qualifications in the present and future will be formulated. The results of the project will be disseminated through articles, papers, workshops, seminars and electronic bulletin boards.

PRODUCTS
- A report on anticipated employment and qualification needs within the design sector.
- A survey and analysis model which can be used in all Member States.
- Recommendations for training actions and measures to meet employment and qualification needs.
