Museum professionals - a gap between education and profession

Objective

OBJECTIVES
The chasm which exists between the abilities required of staff in museums and the qualifications which they have obtained in the educational system is continuously growing, and illustrates the inability of the traditional educational system to respond to the changing imperatives in terms of the qualifications required. For this reason, this study aims to develop and improve theoretical and professional training, initial and continuing, for museum staff.

ACTIVITIES
The partners will develop and strengthen the dialogue between the various departments of museums and the organisations which represent the profession, namely the unions and professional associations. The existing systems of training will be analysed in order to identify their shortcomings with respect to existing and nascent qualifications. The partners will also develop and organise seminars on the new roles and demands for qualifications so as to develop a framework for new study programmes and discuss and finalise new professional training systems.

RESULTS
The project will lead to theoretical professional training, initial and continuing, for museum staff.
