REAL CONSUMER ENGAGEMENT THROUGH A NEW USER-CENTRIC ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT FOR END-USERS’ASSETS IN A MULTI-MARKET SCENARIO

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - REDREAM (REAL CONSUMER ENGAGEMENT THROUGH A NEW USER-CENTRIC ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT FOR END-USERS’ASSETS IN A MULTI-MARKET SCENARIO)

Reporting period: 2020-10-01 to 2022-03-31

- What is the problem/issue being addressed?
Consumers are passive actors in the European energy market, mainly dominant by big companies.

- Why is it important for society?
Consumers need to by active actors of the energy transition if this has to be sustainable and long lasting in the future.

- What are the overall objectives?
The main objective of the REDREAM project is to effectively move the consumer (as a residential, industrial and
tertiary consumer) participation to the centre of the energy market through an open and co-creative ecosystem
where all stakeholders will actively interact. This ambitious challenge will require the collection of demand response
tools and services (energy and non-energy) capable of enabling the capacity for the consumers of participating in
the energy market through an improvement of predictability of consumption patterns and consumer behaviour. A
new solution based on an open co-creative energy ecosystem built upon a new paradigm where the user gives
the value will centralise the portfolio of innovations to develop this new paradigm.

SO1: To effectively put the consumer in the centre by implementing an effective strategy for consumer
engagement based on Service Dominant Logic (SDL) paradigm and establishing the required methodology to
give response to the consumer drivers and moving forward to a value generation chain.
SO2: To engage a large variety of consumers (residential, industrial and tertiary sector) – a total of 744 users in
the project - in demand response mechanisms by developing and testing ICT-based and visualisation-adaptative
novel ecosystem to activate demand response.
SO3: To improve the predictability of consumption and consumer behaviour by decreasing the forecasting error
an average of 20% through the self-learning technology, which able to adapt predictions under changing
conditions.
SO4: To generate a co-creation process to deploy a pool of 39 tailor-made tools for the demonstrations, as part
of the ecosystem, where different stakeholders will take part including the actors which play a key role:
consumer, DSOs, aggregators, EVs, etc.
SO5: To establish an exchange of communication between grid and consumer, through an API, enabling
flexibility services for the grid while customers are using demand-response mechanisms, through the DR tool,
fostering the increase of the share of RES.
SO6: To create an energy forum to allow the exchange of experiences related to REDREAM ecosystem, jointly
addressing concerns and finding solutions, to be more efficient in terms of consumption and cost.
SO7: To demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of solution by providing a solid profitability analysis that shows the
benefits of REDREAM comparing the investment from potential users and the profitability associated thanks to
its added-value services by the end of the project.
SO8: To identify, adapt and develop the new necessary flows of information to manage properly this integration
process for the implementation of the Updated Electricity Market design (e.g. Local Markets).
SO9: To select and test a portfolio of “portable business models” as “drivers” to trigger demand response
schemes in Energy Efficiency (EE) under the consumer-centred approach among key stakeholders such as, local
energy communities, energy cooperatives, ESCOs, aggregators, DSOs, etc. A refined business plan as a “strategic
roadmap” for each actor considering its position in the value chain to get a smooth market penetration of the
innovations in tangible products and services by 2024 will be done.
SO10: To guarantee the security of energy services provided to the customers by developing a robust data
protection and cybersecurity plan.
SO11: To strengthen the European Energy Industry and contribute towards its consolidation as a worldwide
benchmark industry through its commitment of investments in sustainable energy and flexibility solutions.
REDREAM partners have so far answered by implementing 62% of REDREAM actions during the first reporting period in line with the GA. REDREAM Consortium has reported 36 deliverables out of the 36 scheduled in the GA, completed 21 tasks out of the 21 scheduled in the GA and reached 7 milestones out of the 7 scheduled in the GA, in due time.

The 11 REDREAM´s specific objectives SO(s) were defined into 11 operative objectives OO(s) embedded in 9 WP(s) organised into 5-phases. During the first reporting period the phases have progressed as follows:
-100% of the initial understanding of a customer-centric model & Consumer engagement strategy,
-98% of the Project concept Development,
-23% of the DEMO sites deployment, demonstration, monitoring and assessment
-59% Innovative Business Strategy for the new ecosystem,
-60% dissemination & communication, management and ethic compliance,

Therefore, REDREAM partners accomplished 70% progress on the whole 36 months-project.

The work carried out about exploitable results during the first period is summarised as follows:
- Identification of relevant IP (background and foreground).
- A first IP Management plan and strategy for all foreground IP and all KERs has been developed.
- Elaboration of a preliminary list of key exploitable results (KER) with the contribution of main partners, using common methodologies and approaches (potential customers, target market, IP strategy, value proposition…).
- Identification of Exploitation workshops by assigning KERs ownerships to corresponding partners and beneficiaries.
- Main results
+ 40 results (foreground) identified and 7 preliminary KER
+ Deliverable 6.7 Exploitation Roadmap [1/3], submitted in M12 (Sept. 2021)
+ Deliverable 6.10 IP Management [1/2], submitted in M18 (March 2022)
During the first periodic report, REDREAM WP1 began by analysing the alignment between the consumer-centric model and the SDL paradigm proposed. The alignment between the consumer engagement strategies and the EU policy was defined in order to set the project KPIs. The main output after this first analysis is the definition of the consumer engagement project Methodology. In terms of technological solutions, the IT and energy requirements for the development of the tools and services embedded in the ecosystem were studied. Finally, this initial phase provided the basis for REDREAM’s assessment and the relevant policy and regulation which is in the process to apply for the DEMOs.

In particular, the appliance of SDL paradigm focusing on an active role of the customers has created two main deliverables D1.1 (Explanation of the SDL paradigm) and 1.5 (Engagement Methodology) that go beyond the current state of the art whose potential impacts include a) Increase the engagement and participation of consumers into the energy market. b) Increase consumers' awareness on energy efficiency and the environmental impact of their consumption and c) Increase of community awareness and capability to drive the energy transition.

Notwithstanding social, economic and regulatory changes which occurred during the first reporting period, REDREAM technology/service remains a cutting-edge solution to raise social awareness and stakeholders' interests in the role of the citizen in a user-centric model. The information section 2.1 of the DoA about REDREAM expected impacts remains relevant at M18 and no update is required after the first reporting period as described in Table 16 from part B.
