Lean production, teamwork and training of human resources in the automobile components sector

Objective

Lean production is now accepted as the reference model for the European automobile industry. A growing number of top-level companies supplying components for automobiles are now also adopting this model. The rationalisation process brought about by lean production can affect all areas of the company: production and technology policies, organisational structures, training policies and employer-employee relations.

The aim of the project is to develop analytical tools to help workers and management jointly formulate guidelines for vocational training and personnel development policies, bearing in mind the need to take account of the rationalisation process and workers' personal development plans. It will do this firstly by analysing ways group work is introduced and secondly by identifying team members' educational needs. Finally, a training course on group work will be produced for union representatives and team members. A research report with case studies will also be produced.

Impact
This project will make it easier for companies to establish successful team work practices; to free the potential which lies in this form of work organisation; and to develop workers' skills.
