Using graduate skills: Small business growth by degree

Objective

This project is based upon the recognition that there is an increase in the number of graduates seeking employment in a changing working world and that there is a significant role that SMEs have to play in contributing to both the national and European economy. Graduates offer a wide range of competences and there is a need for employers in SMEs to recognise and make use of such skills.

The partners intend to research the interface between graduation and employment, to provide information and training packs appropriate to the situation. These packs developed through transnational seminars and workshops will not only provide general information ("Hiring the Right Graduate", "Employment within SMEs") but will also address these issues with special reference to the hospitality business as an example for modification to other sectors. The team will test the validity of these materials across the European Union in order to enhance mobility and employability of the "European graduate".

Impact
The outputs of this project will provide awareness and understanding of what graduate skills and competences are most appropriate to SME needs. Practical recruitment information for SMEs will also be provided.
