Transnational skills-transfer project in the area of vocational training for regional-planning and local-development professionals

Objective

Since the transfer of national authority to regional and local authorities, these institutions have been faced with substantial difficulties as regards developing and managing local and regional planning projects. Similar problems exist in the majority of European countries. The aim of this pilot project is to transfer know-how and skills in the area of territorial planning to elected local and regional representatives and officials.

The partners will set up European training workshops for this purpose. These workshops will involve various territorial planning professionals in a single project and promote interaction between training and practice. The main themes will comprise urban renewal, improvement of local living conditions and management of inter-district projects.

Impact
The impact of the project will go beyond the improvement of training for territorial planning professionals in that a framework programme is also to be set up to provide CD-Rom and Internet-based training tools which can be used on-site. The project will culminate in the drawing up of a European Charter on Urban and Local and Regional Planning.
