Developing European models of work-based learning in youth and community work

Objective

The EU White Paper "Growth, Competitiveness and Employment" looked at tackling structural unemployment now endemic within European countries. This pilot project seeks to unlock the potential of the social economy to create jobs. The goals of the project are to develop a workplace supervisor training initiative targeted at training practitioners; initiate a range of innovative links between employers' training strategies and beneficiaries of training; and explore the concept of lifelong learning through a structured programme of work-based training.

The partners will develop a range of supervisor training materials and software training programmes for use in the training of relevant staff. Ten to fifteen workers from each partner country will then use these materials in a regional work-based setting. The pilot programmes will be transferable within each partner country.

Impact
The project will facilitate the regionalisation of flexible vocational and professional training for community and youth workers without prior or adequate qualifications. It will also increase the ability of employer organisations in the social economy to become providers of professional qualifications. This will be achieved by helping them to make links with training organisations and universities. Each local pilot will also impact on the national certification systems of their country.
