Objective
The border region of Sundgau is characterised by an economy centred on small, often craft-based companies and by the area's high number of cross-border workers. The objective of this project is to design and test a training system to help SME employees and cross-border workers to maintain and develop their qualification levels against a rapidly changing economic background. The project has the following phases:
- assessment of skills requirements for craft-sector SMEs over the next 3-5 years;
- analysis of existing training schemes;
- establishment of a network of local and cross-border partners to participate in setting up an individualised non-local training system;
- system design and creation of training tools, testing at various sites and companies in the geographical area;
- evaluation of results and their distribution to the partners.
The SME survey results, the programmes and the training modules responding to these needs, the skills evaluation tools and the results of the training scheme will be widely disseminated.
Impact
Large-scale involvement of SMEs in the Sundgau border region in continuing training, as well as the improvement of skill levels and competitiveness in these companies. Enhancement of cross-border workers' career prospects by raising their qualification levels and facilitating mobility through greater transparency of their skills. All rural European areas with similar or identical characteristics will benefit from the concepts developed within the context of this project.
