Objective
This project responds to a repeated demand for new training systems by production industries experiencing profound technological and structural change as well as to the desire of the EU to develop new training systems oriented towards testing and validating skills with the aid of self-study tools. To meet these new needs, the partners have defined the objective of designing a new multimedia training system for unskilled or semi-skilled workers in production industries. This system provides for semi-autonomous learning and includes automatic skills-evaluation tests. The partners propose to design a number of training products for (employed or unemployed) workers (direct target group) and trainers (indirect target group) in two successive phases over a three-year period. The systems will:
- simplify and demystify the most widely used technical concepts in production industries;
- provide access to training for large groups of people;
- work towards defining individual skills;
- take an approach different to that used by professional guilds by enlisting the support of industrial partners to evaluate skills descriptions and validate course content;
- internationalise this approach through the use of European partner networks.
The final products will take the form of training software entitled "Mastering electricity: levels 1,2 and 3" and "Instrumentation technician qualification course".
Impact
Improved access to training for low-skilled workers and development of their skills to meet new needs in production industries.
