Objective
The textile sector in Europe is facing severe competition from developing countries, so that many industries are currently having difficulties in surviving and in remaining competitive. The aim of this project is to help textile companies understand modern production management methods and distance learning techniques, both of which will play an important role in the near future.
The project will develop a number of short courses on modern computer-assisted production management methods for textile industries and use telematics services for their delivery. These courses will be on cellular manufacturing, quick response, just-in-time, logistic control and electronic data interchange. Teleconferences, multimedia and e-mail will be used for course development and delivery. The direct beneficiaries of the project will be all employees in the textiles sector. The indirect beneficiaries will be university students, consultants in the field, service providers, etc.
Impact
The project will forge closer links between education/training establishments and companies and it will promote access to skills through the information society in the context of lifelong learning.
