Integrated small electronics industries goal-directed high technology training II

Objective

SMEs are often inadequately equipped to take advantage of new methods and technologies in the development and production of modern electronic systems. Lack of skilled human resources is a constraint in a field where new methods and technologies are rapidly emerging and where the accelerating pace of technological change tends to render the workforce's skills obsolete.

This project will help alleviate the problem by forging closer links between industry and education while drawing on the know-how of research institutes, and on contacts of branch organisations and official structures with regard to transfer of technology and dissemination of new information. 3 course packages will be developed, comprising 9 stand alone training modules on product ideas, system specification and system test and reliability, HW&SW technologies, design tools/methodologies, and production methods. Course delivery will be flexible with regard to time and location, to suit companies' needs. The courses will also receive official recognition in national training schemes for skilled workers, technicians and engineers. All modules will be made available in the English language and some will be offered in Norwegian, Portuguese and Swedish.

Impact
The project will develop areas of knowledge widely accepted as crucial survival factors for companies and essential for engineers and technicians in securing competitiveness in the labour market.
