Strengthening continuing vocational training for operators

Objective

An increasing part of production in the processing industry is computer-controlled, usually from special control-rooms. It is important for production operators to learn more about process control so that the production shift can be more independent. Process control will in future be a core skill for the production operator. It is also important that the production operator is able to do regular inspections and simple (preventive) maintenance on production equipment. The production operator must also be multiskilled. An increasing amount of work in this industry is undertaken in teams. Production operators must also therefore learn about teamwork.

The objective of this project is to strengthen continuing vocational training for production operators by developing and implementing a curriculum that covers process control, preventive maintenance and teamwork. The project outcomes will be a curriculum, three textbooks and a report describing the methods used and the results.

Impact
The project will make process industry production workers more multiskilled and flexible. This will ultimately enhance their job security and contribute to the competitiveness of the industry as a whole.
