Objective
Despite the urgent need for greater investment in on-going vocational training for workers in order to enhance competitiveness, many SMEs are reducing their training activities in response to pressures to cut costs. Flexible learning is potentially an attractive and cost effective solution, but ineffective management and support often results in a failure to fully realise the potential benefits for end users. This project aims to improve the quality and effectiveness of the management of flexible learning programmes, demonstrating to both SMEs and their employees the benefits of investing in vocational training.
The partnership, consisting of training providers, producers of computer-based training materials and end users, intends to identify European best practice in the management of flexible learning. These principles will be incorporated into an innovative multimedia guide which will assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of learning programmes. Partners will survey the needs of SMEs and workers and jointly design the management guide. This will be test-piloted with SMEs in each member state in support of programmes of flexible learning linked to the achievement of specific business objectives. The outcomes of the project will be disseminated mainly through reports produced on completion of the successive stages of analysis, design, testing and evaluation.
Impact
By incorporating European best practice into a systematic approach, the project will establish quality standards for the management of flexible learning.
